We are seeking a Senior Manager, Infrastructure and Server Operations (Toronto) to manage and direct its enterprise-wide technology infrastructure. This position is critical to the Belzberg service offering: our clients require 100% reliability for market data and market access. In addition to managing the daily operations, this position will contribute to the company’s strategic decision regarding service delivery and cost-effective infrastructure provisioning.

This position reports to the COO.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff of 12 IT and server professionals across 3 offices (Toronto, New York, Chicago).

  • Maintain and optimize the following key areas: networks, servers, market data and telecommunications systems.

  • Set priorities and manage the design, development, maintenance, and evaluation of all infrastructure systems, including: 3 data centres (servers, SANs, LANs, WANs), internet, intranet, security, wireless implementations and telecom.

  • Design and implement a support model that meets or exceeds predetermined service levels.

  • Set and implement departmental goals and objectives aligned with corporate strategic goals.

  • Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for infrastructure administration.

  • Manage an effective systems monitoring program (testing, performance statistics and metrics, escalation).

  • Develop and manage department budget; control operational costs.

  • Practice IT asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation.

  • Travel within Canada and the United States.

  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Min. 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, network and server operations management in the financial services industry, with preference for securities trading or brokerage experience.

  • Deployment of LANS, WANS, servers etc. with multiple security zones.

  • Implementation and management of WANS using site-to-site VPN, frame relay and other networking strategies.

  • Network and other infrastructure monitoring tools.

  • Delivery of market data in a brokerage-related, financial services environment.

  • Current protocols and standards used in the financial services industry, including but not limited to, FIX, STAMP, XML, TCP/IP, DNS, etc.

  • Vendor management e.g. Cisco & HP Equipment, Oracle MS Server, MS Exchange, Active Directory, etc.

Education and Industry Knowledge:

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Computer Science or related discipline.

  • Possess a minimum of 10 years experience in an infrastructure design role.

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.

  • Previous experience in brokerage-related, financial services technology required.

  • Previous experience in trading and market data systems preferred.
